Living Long is Thrilling: A Fireside Chat

Picture yourself with an extra 20 years of life ahead. How would you embrace this
precious gift of time?
Join us as we hear from Ayse Birsel and Bruce Chernof, who embarked on a year-long
journey to explore how older individuals envision and design their extended lives. What
they discovered was profound: regardless of age, love, purpose, well-being, and friendship
remain essential pillars of a fulfilling life.
Together, they will impart simple, research-backed strategies for longer life with optimism,
not pessimism. Join us as they delve into their groundbreaking work and take questions
from the audience about their upcoming collaboration with the Mat-Su Council on Aging
and the Mat-Su Health Foundation in Mat-Su. This discussion is open to all who seek to
enrich their lives and communities.

Community Meeting- Drug Endangered Children

The Mat-Su DEC Alliance is presenting our DEC MDT progress and next steps to the community. Several Core Team members and DEC Family advocates will be reflecting on DEC accomplishments and plans. We are extremely honored to have a participant speaking to her experience with the DEC program. She will be joined by the Law Enforcement Officer and DEC Family Advocate who works with her family. Tabitha Mattie (DEC Family Advocate with Alaska Youth & Family Network), Keith Barkwood (School Resource Officer with the Palmer Police Department) and this DEC participating mom will share a live example of the DEC Response team activity and subsequent result. A light dinner will be provided for refreshment sponsored by R.O.C.K. Mat-Su. We hope you will join us for this meaningful discussion and look forward to connecting with you.

Town Hall Meeting- Lack of housing in the Mat-Su Valley

This town hall meeting is being called to discuss the issue of the lack of housing for people experiencing homelessness here in the Matsu Valley. I am inviting you all to attend this meeting to participate in the conversation. There will be a panel with 4 community leaders with many years of experience working and living in the Matsu Valley for Q&A. Snacks will be provided.

Moose Nugget Regatta

The Moose Nugget Regatta is a one-day rowing event put on by the Anchorage Rowing Association and attended by about 100 athletes and a volunteers ranging in age from 11 to 75. Teams come from Seward, Soldotna, and Anchorage with athletes living all over Alaska. We occasionally have lower 48 and international crews attend. You saw “Boys in the Boat”, now see rowing live!

We compete on a 1,000 meter course laid out with buoys across the South shore of Wasilla lake. We launch a race every 10 -15 minutes from 9 or 10am to 4pm on Saturday. The public is invited to come cheer on the crews and learn more about the Alaska rowing community. For more information, visit www.anchoragerowing.com or email moosenugget@anchoragerowing.com.
