Training | Saavy Caregiver

Savvy Caregiver is for family members who are caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia (ADRD).

Classes offer caregivers the knowledge and skills they need to improve quality of life for their family member, as well as for themselves.

This course provides:

Information on ADRD
Knowledge of how dementia affects the person
Ideas for setting up daily care and activities for success
Strategies for figuring out what behaviors mean and how to respond
Tools for decision-making
Savvy Caregiver classes meet for 2 hours a week over six weeks.

Screening & Pre-Registration required. Availability is limited.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Join the UAA College of Health to attend Adult Mental Health First Aid training. This class will teach you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This 8 hour training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.

Special instructions: Participants must successfully complete self-paced prerequisite work in MHFA Connect BEFORE admission into classroom.

Ski101 By Mat-Su Ski Club

New to Nordic skiing or thinking about starting? Join Mat-Su Ski Club coaches Daryl Farrens and Lorene Lynn for Ski101, a FREE talk and demo at Backcountry Bike & Ski in Palmer! Learn about Nordic gear, dressing right, and upcoming Adult ski lessons and clinics. Open to anyone curious about Nordic skiing! Starts at 6:30pm on November 14th🗓️– Your perfect introduction to the world of Nordic skiing!

Community Emergency Response Training FREE

This FREE 3 day, 20 hour Basic CERT class will be held at the Upper Susitna Senior Center 16463 E Helena Drive on Saturday Nov 11th, Sunday Nov 12th and Sunday Nov 19th from 9am-4:30pm each day.

Fly Tying- Wasilla Vet Center

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) is dedicated to the physical and emotional
rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and veterans through fly-fishing
and fly tying education, rod building and outings.

Other Special Activities Include:

Family Fishing Picnics
Holiday Celebration
Fishing Trips (May – September)
All Activities Provided Free of Cost to:
• Wounded, ill or injured military personnel referred by Medical Evaluation Boards or medical staff at military hospitals
• Veterans who have a Disability rating from the VA

Geraldine Klapak will be your instructor for the class. She is a deaf woman who is experienced in tutoring and teaching ASL. She will be joined by Amy Rosemarie who will be assisting.

*BBB is a female disabled veteran owned business who exclusively hires homeless youth from the community. We are the only bookbinder in the state. All people are welcome here and events are scheduled by request. Our facility is fully handicap accessible.
