About the presentation: Kevin Toothaker with Knik Tribe will be sharing an introduction of the history of the Dena’ina.
About Knik Tribe: Knik Tribe is the Oldest Village in Cook Inlet, a Sovereign Tribal Government in the Upper Inlet, federally recognized in 1989. Knik Tribe serves 5,000 Alaska Natives/American Indians in the Mat-Su Borough. They raise all boats in our schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods.
About Kevin: Kevin is half Inupiaq, from his mother, a quarter Swede and the other quarter, his namesake his Father. Kevin has been a resident of the Mat-Su Valley since 1984. He graduated Palmer High in the 1980’s and came back to raise his family in valley the 1990’s (but in Wasilla, his wife wouldn’t hear of moving back to Palmer!). Kevin’s daughter is now raising her family with the same passion for the land and family as he has.
Cost to attend: Our speaker series are donation-based/pay what you can events. We do not want cost to be a barrier for community members to attend. Funds collected will first cover Revel staff time and expenses for the event. Funds beyond our expenses will be donated to the speaker or speaker’s organization of choice. For this presentation, funds will be donated to Knik Tribe.

What is the winter speaker series? Revel is hosting monthly educational lectures/presentations November 2023 through April 2024. Each month features a different topic with the goal of connecting locals to the area where they live.
Our goal? We hope the series helps spark curiosity and encourages locals to ask questions, continue learning and build community. If you have any questions about this event, the speaker series or have ideas for future presentations, please call us 907-903-1664.
