DESCRIPTION:In 1984\, Betty White founded the MatSu Food Pantry in the basement of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Through her hard work\, innovative spirit\, and unwavering determination\, she provided our community with much-needed nutritious food — even including salvaged roadkill moose. \nBetty Lou White was instrumental in securing nonprofit status for the organization and building the Pantry into a pillar of the MatSu community. Her tireless advocacy\, dedication\, and volunteer efforts laid the foundation for what has since grown into the MatSu Food Bank. \nTo honor her legacy\, we are renaming the Wasilla Food Pantry to the Betty White Food Pantry. The rededication ceremony will be held on June 26\, 2025\, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM\, with a ribbon-cutting at 2:00 PM. \nWe’ll be celebrating with a community BBQ\, Betty White-themed giveaways\, and opportunities to connect with our amazing staff\, volunteers\, and board members. \nThe event will be hosted by Mayor Glenda Ledford\, who will also serve as our keynote speaker.
