SUMMARY:Get Real Financial Fair
DESCRIPTION:All Homeschool high schoolers are invited to “GET REAL” with their finances. \nThe Get REAL Financial Reality Fair\, sponsored by Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union\, is a project designed to teach financial literacy to high school students…Sound boring? No way! Did we mention it’s like playing a giant game of monopoly? \nEach student is assigned a “life” with a predetermined income (this is based loosely on what you want to do when you graduate from college); then the hard part begins… how do you balance your budget? What kind of car can you afford? What kind of house can you buy? Do you have any money left over at the end of the month for entertainment? \nJust when you think you’ve got it all figured out\, you have to SPIN THE WHEEL OF REALITY\, land on “inherit $500” and celebrate with your friends… OR land on “Unexpected vehicle repairs – $300” and try to figure out how to shuffle your money around. \nEnter our drawing\, and you may walk away with an Amazon Gift Card! Must be present to win. \nQuestions? Contact Gena Chastain at: 352-7457 or email gena.chastain@matsuk12.us

SUMMARY:Presentation: Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:This FREE presentation is open to ADULTS who are interested in learning how to identify and counteract Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to develop resilient kids. \nFrequent or prolonged exposure to stress can create toxic stress which can damage the developing brain of a child and overall health. A Survival Mode Response to toxic stress increases a child’s heart rate\, blood pressure\, breathing\, and muscle tension. Their thinking brain is knocked offline. Self-protection is their priority. In other words: “I can’t hear you! I can’t respond to you! I am just trying to be safe!” \nLearn How Resilience Trumps ACEs! Parents\, Teachers\, and Caregivers can help by:\n– Gaining an understanding of ACEs and how they affect children’s social\, emotional\, and cognitive abilities and their connection to a wide range of health problems throughout a person’s lifespan.\n– Creating environments where children feel safe emotionally & physically.\n– Helping children identify feelings & manage emotions\n– Creating a safe physical & emotional environment at home\, in school\, and neighborhoods.\n– Share ways to build resilience. \nQuestions?\nPresentation Content Contact: boydenmichelle@gmail.com\nEvent Details Contact: candrews@rockmatsu.org
