SUMMARY:Living Long is Thrilling: A Fireside Chat
DESCRIPTION:Picture yourself with an extra 20 years of life ahead. How would you embrace this\nprecious gift of time?\nJoin us as we hear from Ayse Birsel and Bruce Chernof\, who embarked on a year-long\njourney to explore how older individuals envision and design their extended lives. What\nthey discovered was profound: regardless of age\, love\, purpose\, well-being\, and friendship\nremain essential pillars of a fulfilling life.\nTogether\, they will impart simple\, research-backed strategies for longer life with optimism\,\nnot pessimism. Join us as they delve into their groundbreaking work and take questions\nfrom the audience about their upcoming collaboration with the Mat-Su Council on Aging\nand the Mat-Su Health Foundation in Mat-Su. This discussion is open to all who seek to\nenrich their lives and communities.

SUMMARY:Presentation | Adverse Childhood Experiences (In Person & Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:This FREE presentation is open to ADULTS who are interested in learning how to identify and counteract Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to develop resilient kids. \nRegistration is not required. \nFrequent or prolonged exposure to stress can create toxic stress which can damage the developing brain of a child and overall health. A Survival Mode Response to toxic stress increases a child’s heart rate\, blood pressure\, breathing\, and muscle tension. Their thinking brain is knocked offline. Self-protection is their priority. In other words: “I can’t hear you! I can’t respond to you! I am just trying to be safe!” \nLearn How Resilience Trumps ACEs! Parents\, Teachers\, and Caregivers can help by: \n– Gaining an understanding of ACEs and how they affect children’s social\, emotional\, and cognitive abilities and their connection to a wide range of health problems throughout a person’s lifespan. \n– Creating environments where children feel safe emotionally & physically. \n– Helping children identify feelings & manage emotions \n– Creating a safe physical & emotional environment at home\, in school\, and in neighborhoods. \n– Share ways to build resilience. \nQuestions? \nPresentation Content Contact: boydenmichelle@gmail.com \nEvent Details Contact: candrews@rockmatsu.org\nZoom Link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82576480185?pwd=Tjl6akZueUs2c3FrK0ZEY1N3N25Idz09\nMeeting ID: 825 7648 0185\nPasscode: 288902

SUMMARY:2024 R.O.C.K. Mat-Su Go Blue Rally!
DESCRIPTION:Join us! \nR.O.C.K. Mat-Su is hosting a rally on April 5\, 2024\, to raise awareness and kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. \nThe rally will take place on the corner of Parks Hwy. and Crusey St. on both the McDonald’s and Newcomb Park side from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. \nThis is a nationwide effort to raise public awareness about and take a stand against child abuse and neglect. It is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities who work together to prevent child abuse and neglect and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families. \nCan’t attend the rally? Here are other suggestions: \n– Wear blue on April 5th. Take a selfie and post it on Facebook\, Twitter or Instagram using the following hashtags: #CAPAlaska\, #GoBlueAlaska\, #rockmatsu \n– Send out an email to everyone at work\, friends\, and family\, encouraging them to wear blue \n– Create a sign and join us! \nWe must abide by the State of Alaska’s right-of-way guidelines. \n• Stay off the train track side of Parks Hwy as there is no sidewalk and the tracks are close by and it is unknown if snow berms are present on that side of the highway\, instead stay on the sidewalk side of Parks Hwy. \n• Do not interfere with vehicular or pedestrian traffic. \n• Do not leave any signs or banners behind after the rally is done. \n• Do not park any vehicles along the highway or right of way for the rally. \n• No selling or commerce in the State of Alaska right of way.
