SUMMARY:"For the Rights of All: Ending Jim Crow in Alaska" Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate #ElizabethPeratrovichDay with The Alaska Center!\nJoin us on Elizabeth Peratrovich Day\, February 16\, from 1pm-2:30pm for a screening of “For the Rights of All: Ending Jim Crow in Alaska” followed by small group discussions.\nAlaska Native Peoples have faced countless obstacles in the fight for equal access to decision-making in our state. Elizabeth Peratrovich\, an Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand President\, fought at the forefront. Organizing innumerable community members\, she paved the way to ensure Indigenous peoples today are able to access housing\, education\, careers\, and even citizenship rights. We keep up her fight and on Elizabeth Peratrovich Day we honor her with a virtual community event.\nJoin us to see how she advocated for all Alaskans\, and together let’s talk about how we can keep her legacy alive in our work moving forward!

SUMMARY:Legal Issues for Family Caregivers P1
DESCRIPTION:Guest speaker Eva Khadjinova\, from Alaska Legal Services\, will identify issues faced by caregivers who are concerned about their loved one’s care when caring for them at home is no longer possible. \nWe will explore answers to questions such as: When should we start considering our options? Join us for this very important discussion. \nJoin either one or both of this two-part class. Part 2 is March 19. \nGuest speaker\, Eva Khadjinova\, returns for part two of this discussion to help us examine the legal implications that arise when our loved one no longer has the capacity to sign legal documents\, such as: wills\, power of attorney\, divorce\, property sales\, etc. \nWe will explore and compare different options you may need at some point like guardianship and conservatorship. There will also be an opportunity to discuss any general legal questions you may have. \nFree to attend! Registration required.
