SUMMARY:2021/2022 Regional Parent Conference: Mat-Su Valley
DESCRIPTION:Virtual conference \nDiscover the Power of a One-Page Description! \nHave you ever sat in a meeting where others are talking about your child and everyone is focused on health and safety or what they can’t do? A one-page description is a “cheat sheet” which provides a positive introduction of your child and helps others learn how to help them have days filled with the things that make life worth living…what’s important to them. It also provides your child positive control over the supports they need. Join Aimee Ortiz-Day and Shelbi Davenport to learn how to create a one-page description and how it can be used across multiple settings. \n*In order to connect families to local resources/services\, space will be limited to families living and receiving services in the Mat-Su Valley \n(Recordings will be available online and by request after the conference) \nRegister here: https://www.stonesoupgroup.org/event/2021-2022-regional-parent-conferencematsuvalley/

SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Self Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Details \n1 hr 30 min \nEvent by Sunshine Community Health Center \nPrice: Free \nPublic · Anyone on or off Facebook\nSunshine Community Health Center’s Kirsten Strolle\, LMSW is offering an online workshop about Mindfulness and Self-Compassion. \nMindfulness is a skill that allows a person to notice and accept their own complex thoughts and feelings with openness and curiosity\, including difficult emotions like anger\, sadness\, frustration\, self-doubt\, etc. Mindfulness is one of the first steps in emotional healing. \nSelf-compassion involves responding to these complex thoughts and feelings with kindness\, empathy\, and understanding\, making it possible for people to comfort themselves when they are hurting. Research shows that self-compassion greatly enhances emotional well-being. It reduces anxiety and depression\, boosts happiness\, and can even give people a boost when maintaining healthy lifestyle habits like diet and exercise. Other benefits include increasing motivation\, boosting happiness\, enhancing self-worth\, and increasing resilience during life’s challenges. \nThis workshop will contain meditations\, cover different topics to enhance mindfulness and self-compassion\, discussions\, and practice exercises. There are about thirty minutes a day of home practice during the workshop to deepen and strengthen the mindfulness practices and to increase self-compassion. \nWhen: Tuesdays\, October 19th – December 7th \nWhere: Zoom at home or virtually at your local clinic \nPotential Benefits: Increasing motivation\, boosting happiness\, enhancing self-worth\, and increasing resilience during life’s challenges. \nWhat to Expect: This is an experiential workshop with meditations\, activities\, and discussion. There are about thirty minutes a day of home practice during the workshop. \nNew Patients: If you are new to the Sunshine Community Health Center\, you will need to complete new patient paperwork. A person from the clinic will call you to help you with this process or you can go to your local clinic and fill out paperwork. This is an essential part of enrollment. \nCost: Insurance will be billed and there are no co-pays. We do not want finances to be a barrier. For those without insurance\, we offer a sliding fee scale based on income and the number of people in your family. \nSign up below or call Tanya Olson at 376-2273 extension 2661.
