DESCRIPTION:One in ten Alaskans are Veterans. On November 11\, 2024\, Mat-Su College (MSC) would like to invite the public to join us in honoring all of those who have served.\nMSC began having an annual Veterans Day event in 2011. Through the years\, the ceremony has grown from a modest gathering around the school flagpole to a sit-down gathering in the Glenn Massay Theater.\nThis year\, our guest speaker will be Shane Holtz with Battle Dawgs – an outdoor rehabilitation program designed for our nation’s combat veterans.\nThere will also be a special presentation In Memoriam of Gene Horner. He was State Director of Bugles Across America for 17 years for Bugles Across America\, a nationwide roster of horn players who fill Taps requests for veteran’s funerals. He was also an important part of our past ceremonies.\nSenior Master Sergeant (Ret.) Tom Spangler serves the campus community as a valued academic advisor and he says\, “Most families in the state call veterans their neighbors and friends. Our ceremony serves to bring the community together each year to celebrate the numerous veterans in the Mat-Su Valley and to honor those service members who have given their lives in service to our country.”\nIn the week leading up to the ceremony\, a Memorial Wall will be set up on campus.  \nContact Number: 907-891-1343\nContact email: nmmcdermott@alaska.edu

DESCRIPTION:Community members are invited to attend Stewards of Children trainings to learn about preventing child sexual abuse.\nWhat is Stewards of Children ®?\nStewards of Children® is a prevention training that teaches adults how to prevent\, recognize\, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for any community member concerned about the safety of children and can be useful for youth-serving organizations.
