DESCRIPTION:This FREE presentation is open to ADULTS who are interested in learning how to identify and counteract Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to develop resilient kids. \nRegistration is not required. \nFrequent or prolonged exposure to stress can create toxic stress which can damage the developing brain of a child and overall health. A Survival Mode Response to toxic stress increases a child’s heart rate\, blood pressure\, breathing and muscle tension. Their thinking brain is knocked offline. Self-protection is their priority. SUMMARY:Gold Mint Walkway Repair
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers will repair wooden pedestrian walkways on Gold Mint trail in Hatcher Pass State Park. They span over traditionally wet\, muddy areas on the trail and the boards are rotting away. The work site is approximately 1 – 1.5 miles from the trailhead. The trail is an easy trail but can be muddy and wet depending on the weather.\nNo experience needed. All tools and protective equipment will be provided. RSVP at: https://www.alaska-trails.org/…/gold-mint-walkway-repair \nAbout the event\nThe day will begin at the Gold Mint trailhead in Hatcher Pass State Park. Volunteers will hike from the trailhead to the worksite and repair wooden pedestrian walkways. The work site is approximately 1 – 1.5 miles from the trailhead. The trail is an easy trail but can be muddy and wet depending on the weather. \nWhat to bring: Rain gear\, sturdy work/hiking boots\, snacks\, water\, sunscreen\, long work pants\, and work gloves and safety glasses if you have them (if you don’t have gloves/safety glasses they will be provided for the day).  \nWhat NOT to bring: Alcohol\, drugs\, children\, pets\, and firearms. \nNotes: This event is open to volunteers age 12 and up. Volunteers under the age of 18 require a parent or guardian to be present. Conditions could well be rainy and mud will likely be present on the trail. No experience is necessary\, but volunteers should have a minimum ability to hike and work for 5-6 hours during potentially inclement conditions. Experience with trail bridge building\, deck repair\, stair building is a plus but not a must. If volunteers can carry a board\, dig dirt\, use a saw\, or a screw gun – that is all that is needed.
