SUMMARY:Darkness to Light Facilitator Training: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention
DESCRIPTION:R.O.C.K. Mat-Su is offering a Facilitator Training to individuals who want to become trainers for the evidence-based child sexual abuse prevention curriculum called Stewards of Children. Hosted in partnership with Darkness to Light\, a national prevention organization\, R.O.C.K. Mat-Su seeks individuals who want to get involved in preventing child sexual abuse in our community. \nTRAINING COST + SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION\nTo make this a free training opportunity R.O.C.K. Mat-Su has scholarships available for the first 10 Mat-Su community members who register. –SCHOLARSHIP CODE: ROCKMATSU–\nThe registration fee for this training is $450 for non-Mat-Su community members. \nREGISTRATION REQUIRED: https://secure3.convio.net/d2l/site/TR/Training/General… \nWHAT DOES A Darkness to Light FACILITATOR DO?\nFacilitators are individuals who have been trained to deliver the Stewards of Children® training program to adults in their organization or community. Facilitators model the core principals of Stewards of Children® in their community by talking openly about child sexual abuse and engaging adults in discussion\, and agree to host trainings in the Mat-Su when they are available to do so. \nWHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS?\nWhile teaching or training experience is not required\, you must feel comfortable speaking and presenting in front of groups.\nYou should consider how talking about the issue regularly and openly in public will affect you personally. \nHOW DO I BECOME A FACILITATOR?\nTo become an Authorized Facilitator\, you must attend a Facilitator Workshop. R.O.C.K. Mat-Su is offering scholarships for individuals who will provide free trainings in the Mat-Su Borough. \nThe workshop includes:\nInstructions on the philosophy and purpose of Stewards of Children®\, mastery of the training curriculum\, preparation for and promoting the program\, and facilitator policies and procedures\nAll training materials including the Facilitator Manual\, Facilitator Guide & Script with the DVD\, and 20 Stewards of Children® Interactive Workbooks\n7 hours of instruction\, approved for CE credit by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). \nFACILITATORS ARE QUALIFIED TO OFFER THESE WORKSHOPS\nOnce you become a facilitator you are qualified to offer the Darkness to Light workshops listed below. You can access supporting materials and the curriculum for these trainings through your online portal for Darkness to Light Facilitators. \nStewards of Children®\nStewards of Children® is a prevention training that teaches adults how to prevent\, recognize\, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for organizations that serve youth and for individuals concerned about the safety of children. It is the only nationally distributed\, evidence-informed program proven to increase knowledge\, improve attitudes\, and change child protective behaviors. \nTalking with Children about Safety from Sexual Abuse\nTalking about personal safety and sex creates a protective bond between parent and child\, increased confidence for both\, and instills knowledge that makes children and teens much less vulnerable. Building on the education provided in Stewards of Children®\, Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed training on preventing\, recognizing\, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse\, you will learn how to talk with and listen to children about sexual abuse and personal safety. \nChild Exploitation Prevention | Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children\nSexual trafficking\, also known as the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC)\, is any sexual activity involving a child for which something of value is given or promised. Building on the education provided in Stewards of Children®\, Darkness to Light’s evidence-based training on preventing\, recognizing\, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse\, this training teaches you about the root cause of commercial sexual exploitation and why preventing sexual abuse is important to reducing the risk of children being sexually exploited. \nProtecting Children During a Crisis\nWe often develop strategies that help to prevent child sexual abuse under our existing circumstances. But what happens if those circumstances change? This training will help you navigate through the unusual circumstances you might face during times of crisis. This training will help you consider your current strategies\, help you identify the new situation\, and help you change your strategy. \nHealthy Touch for Children and Youth\nHealthy affection and touch is protective from child sexual abuse especially with parents\, caregivers\, and family members. Building on the education provided in Stewards of Children®\, Darkness to Light’s evidence-based training on preventing\, recognizing\, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse\, this training teaches you some guidelines for healthy touch and safe\, respectful ways to interact with children. \nBystanders Protecting Children from Boundary Violations and Sexual Abuse\nIn this training you will learn how to be an active bystander in child sexual abuse prevention and response. You will receive examples of boundary violations and inappropriate behaviors\, and how you can make spontaneous and planned interventions that reinforce boundaries and protect children. This training builds on the education provided in Stewards of Children® on preventing\, recognizing\, and reacting responsibly to child sexual abuse.
