SUMMARY:Workshop | Braided Stories: Building Equitable Communities for Alaska's Children
DESCRIPTION:SPACE IS LIMITED | Registration Required \nR.O.C.K. Mat-Su partners created Braided Stories for adult audiences because understanding and addressing historical and intergenerational trauma is critical to achieving the vision of reducing child abuse and increasing family resilience in the Mat-Su.\nThe partnership sculpted the curriculum to specifically explore the histories\, disparities\, and strength of racial and ethnic groups in the Mat-Su. Evoking the braided rivers of the Mat-Su\, participants intertwine their own stories with local history and voices in order to deepen understanding of the people\, place\, and lifestyles of the Mat-Su.\nThrough facilitated dialogue and personal reflection\, the workshop creates a safe space to examine awareness of one’s personal identity\, to explore the dynamics of power\, and to consider possibilities for a healthier future for Mat-Su’s children. \nLearn more at braidedstories.com \nSPACE IS LIMITED | Registration Required\nRegister Here: https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSf5zUlr6J…/viewform

SUMMARY:Online Presentation | Adverse Childhood Experiences & Resilience
DESCRIPTION:This FREE presentation is open to ADULTS who are interested in learning how to identify and counteract Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to develop resilient kids. \nFrequent or prolonged exposure to stress can create toxic stress which can damage the developing brain of a child and overall health. A Survival Mode Response to toxic stress increases a child’s heart rate\, blood pressure\, breathing\, and muscle tension. Their thinking brain is knocked offline. Self-protection is their priority. In other words: “I can’t hear you! I can’t respond to you! I am just trying to be safe!” \nLearn How Resilience Trumps ACEs! Parents\, Teachers\, and Caregivers can help by: \n– Gaining an understanding of ACEs and how they affect children’s social\, emotional\, and cognitive abilities and their connection to a wide range of health problems throughout a person’s lifespan. \n– Creating environments where children feel safe emotionally & physically. \n– Helping children identify feelings & manage emotions \n– Creating a safe physical & emotional environment at home\, in school\, and neighborhoods. \n– Share ways to build resilience. \nQuestions? \nPresentation Content Contact: boydenmichelle@gmail.com \nEvent Details Contact: candrews@rockmatsu.org
